Guwahati, May 22, 2019:

The India Meteorological Department (IMD) on Wednesday predicted that isolated places in West Bengal, Sikkim and Assam are likely to witness thunderstorm and lightning accompanied with squall (50-60 kmph) tomorrow. The weather condition is likely to be the same in other Northeast states such as Meghalaya, Nagaland, Manipur, Mizoram and Tripura on Thursday.

These are worrisome signs for the Northeast states which recently felt the impact of the severe cyclone Fani which caused heavy rain and thunderstorms across the Northeast region in recent times. The impact of 'Fani' was mostly felt in the eastern Indian states of Odisha and West Bengal.

The impact of Fani was such that a total of 79 flights were cancelled at different airports in the northeast region due to bad weather, triggered by cyclonic storm.

It may be mentioned here that the counting of votes of the 2019 Lok Sabha election will also take place on May 23 and it remains to be seen to what extent the storm will prove to be a hindrance in the counting process.
