Olympian Dipa Karmakar Visits NCC Cadets in Agartala

Agartala, November 26, 2019:

Padma Shri awardee and Olympian gymnast Dipa Karmakar on Tuesday visited the ongoing Leadership Camp of the National Cadet Corps (NCC) cadets at  Agartala.

During the session, Dipa interacted with the cadets and shared the valuable sporting experience with the cadets. She further motivated them to adopt sports and physical fitness as a way of life, and incorporate fitness-related activities into their daily lives.

Dipa Karmakar, who is one of the most decorated gymnasts in the history of India, first gained attention when she won a bronze medal at the 2014 Commonwealth Games in Glasgow, becoming the first Indian female gymnast to do so in the history of the Games.

Karmakar represented India at the 2016 Summer Olympics in Rio de Janeiro, becoming the first Indian female gymnast ever to compete in the Olympics, and the first Indian gymnast to do so in 52 years.

Karmakar attained fourth position in Women's Vault Gymnastics event at Rio, with an overall score of 15.066.
