With just two months left for Mizoram to go to elections, resignations of lawmakers galore in the hill state.
Congress MLA, Lalrinliana Sailo, on Wednesday resigned from the party and the Assembly. He told reporters that he had quit as the government refused to create a separate district comprising his constituency Tuchang.
The three-time MLA said he would join the opposition Mizo National Front (MNF). Earlier, he held the portfolios of health besides trade and commerce in the Lal Thanhawla ministry.
Sailo’s resignation comes a fortnight after the resignation of Home Minister R Lalzirliana, also of the Congress. He had resigned days after he was served a show-cause notice by the disciplinary committee of Pradesh Congress Committee which accused him of “confusing party workers”.
Mizoram will go to elections in December. Despite an anti-incumbency wave, the Congress sits pretty. However, the MNF is gearing up to try and give the Congress a run for their money.
The BJP is only trying to grow. BJP leader Ram Madhav on Wednesday said the party would go it alone. BJP and MNF are partners in non-Congress conglomerate of political parties North East Democratic Alliance.
