President Ramnath Kovind Accorded Warm Welcome by Sikkimese Monks

Gangtok, November 2, 2019:

President Ram Nath Kovind visited Lingdum Monastery at Ranka in Sikkim today. The President of India was accompanied by the Governor of Sikkim, Ganga Prasad.

Mr. Kovind was received and welcomed at the Monastery by Garwang Rinpoche, Prem Singh Tamang. Mr. Kovind was given a traditional welcome by monks of the Monastery through the display of Singhi Dance and Mask Dance.

Ram Nath Kovind offered his prayers in the Monastery and also interacted with the austere monks, who were all-smiles after meeting Mr. Kovind.

Ram Nath Kovind is on a three-day tour to the North East and will visit Sikkim on Saturday and the 'land of clouds' Meghalaya, on Monday.

A press communiqué was issued from President of India's Secretariat stated that the President Kovind will grace the 5th convocation of Sikkim University in Gangtok on Saturday. On November 4, President will grace the 26th convocation of the North-Eastern Hill University (NEHU) in Shillong, a Central Government University.

This will be Ram Nath Kovind’s maiden visit to Meghalaya after assuming the office as the President of India. Ram Nath Kovind will attend the NEHU convocation as the chief guest from 10.30 am to 11.30 am.
