Shooter Dadi Chandro Tomar falls victim to COVID-19 in Meerut hospital

MUMBAI: Shooter Chandro Tomar, also known as 'Shooter Dadi', died of COVID-19 at the age of 89.

She had tested positive for COVID-19 and admitted to a Meerut hospital on April 26 after complaining of breathing problems.

The news was announced on the 89-year-old legendary shooter's Twitter page, which hails from Baghpat village in Uttar Pradesh.

Her sister, a fellow shooter who joined her late in the sport, shared her grief on Twitter and wrote: "Mera saath chhoot gaya, Chandro kahan chali gayi (I lost my partner, where did Chandro go)."

Her death has been mourned by people from all walks of life, from Union ministers to film actors.

Chandro was well into her 60s when she first picked up a pistol, but she went on to win numerous national competitions, even inspiring a Bollywood film based on her life, 'Saand ki Aankh'.

She is said to be the world's oldest woman sharpshooter.
