Indian shuttler PV Sindhu enters Pre-Quarterfinals beating Hong Kong’s Ngan Yi Cheung

TOKYO: PV Sindhu, the 26-year-old Indian shuttler defeated Hong Kong’s Ngan Yi Cheung in the women's singles badminton match at Tokyo Olympics qualifying for the pre-quarterfinals.

PV Sindhu who won silver in the previous edition in Rio, defeated world No. 34 Cheung 21-9 21-16 in a 35-minute match to win the group today.

Sindhu wins Group J's three-woman competition with four points from two matches.

So far in the Tokyo Olympics, she has not dropped a game.

Sindhu began her season with a believable straight-game victory over Tsenia Polikarpova on Sunday.

The match against Cheung Ngan Yi, a tour veteran, was a tough one for SIndhu. However, the Indian shuttler made a strong start. She looked sharp and was hitting winners at will.

Sindhu will next compete against Mia Blichfeldt of Denmark. The Indian shuttler has a 4-1 head-to-head record against the Danish shuttler in 5 meetings.

Sindhu defeated Mia in straight games in their most recent meeting at the Swiss Open 2021. in the quarter-finals

If Sindhu advances past Mia in the next round, she will most likely face Japan's Akane Yamaguchi in the quarter-finals.
