GANGTOK: The Department of Telecom under Government of India through the Bharat Sanchar Nigam Limited (BSNL) today officially declared Sikkim as an independent telecom circle. The newly formed Sikkim Telecom Circle will start functioning from Gangtok w.e.f. 1st September, 2021.
Approval of the long pending request for an independent telecom circle will now allow the state to be able to control its own telecom policies, and implement telecom projects faster. It further hopes to allow increase in funding for the telecom sector in Sikkim resulting in wider network coverage.
