The capital city of Sikkim has received light snowfall after fifteen long years. Gangtok is popular among the tourists for its heavy snowfall and chilling weather but much to its relief, the capital and its surrounding areas have received light snowfall on Sunday.
Director, GN Raha of India Meteorological Department, Sikkim informed that Gangtok had earlier recorded similar snowfall 15 years back. He also said that temperatures might fall following cyclonic circulation over Sub Himalayan West Bengal and adjoining Bangladesh till the next one or two days.

It may be mentioned here that light snowfall is very rare in Sikkim but from Saturday onward, Gangtok and areas like Vajra, Tathangchen, Ganesh Tok, Chandmari and Tashi View Point received lighter snowfall, much to its relief.

North Sikkim and East Sikkim have, on the other hand, received heavy snowfall on Saturday. The tourists rejoiced the light snowfall in the capital city but the locals are facing difficulties in their regular chores.
