Gorkha Janmukti Morcha (GJM) President Binoy Tamang has appealed to its youth wing to withdraw the strike called on December 29 in Sikkim to protest against the Citizenship Amendment Act and National Register of Citizens (CAA-NRC).
In a statement issued today, Tamang has appealed to the youth of the party “to withdraw their general strike of 29th December, 2019.”

It may be mentioned here that the Gorkha Janmukti Yowa Morcha had called for the strike was called in order to oppose the amendment of the Citizenship Act (CAA) and the National Register of Citizens (NRC).
Tamang stated that keeping in view of Christmas eve, Losar of Dukpa community, Losar of Sikkimese community, three days Satsang of Sri Sri Satpalji Maharaj at Salugarah, Siliguri, New Year’s Eve and inconvenience to the tourists visiting Darjeeling and Sikkim, he has urged the youth wing to withdraw the general strike.

“My commitment and the stand is Darjeeling Hills to be ‘strike-free zone’…Our protest against the NRC and CAA will continue in a very democratic manner,” he said.
The notice also informed that the GJM will organize the protest march against the CAA and NRC in two different phases, wherein all the leaders of the GJM and other frontal organisations will participate.
The first phase will be held at 8:30 am on December 28 from Old Supermarket to Kurseong Motor Stand while the second phase will be on January 5, 2020 at 8:30 am from Kurseong Motor Stand to Darjeeling-Siliguri.
