Gangtok, August 26, 2019:

In yet another boost to the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) in Sikkim, the Panchayats and Zilla Panchayat members of Tumin Lingee joined the the party in the presence of MLA Ugen Gyatso Bhutia.

This is indeed remarkable, as up until now, the formerly-ruling Sikkim Democratic Front's (SDF) cadres and members were joining the recently-elected Sikkim Krantikari Morcha (SKM), but now, all of sudden, they have started joining the recently-strengthened BJP party in Sikkim.

This trend is being seen everywhere, not only in Tumin Lingee, as more and more BJP offices are being opened, and many are joining the BJP party in the State of Sikkim.

Meanwhile, the Sikkim Progressive Youth Forum (SPYF) continues to protest against the defection of former SDF members to the SKM and BJP parties. SPYF is demanding the resignation of all the 12 MLAs who have defected to other parties. SPYF plans to hold a sustained campaign across the State against the recent defections.

It may be mentioned that there has been a dramatic change in the political scenario of Sikkim in the wake of the 2019 Assembly elections in the State as the PS Golay led SKM were able to upset the longest-serving Chief Minister Pawan Chamling, who had been reigning as CM for twenty-five years.

Meanwhile, the current CM Golay is yet to prove his mettle as he must win an election within the next 6 months in order to hang onto the post of Chief Minister. Furthermore, Golay is still plagued by charges of corruption.
