The third stage of the EPIC 17K MTB Race; titled The King of the Mountain has been completed with Isaac Rai from SSB as winner, who completed the distance of 83 km from Lachung to Thangu in a record time of 4:47:56 hrs. The second rider to complete the course is Shiven who completed the course in 5:04:07 hrs and the third rider to complete the course was Tenzing Wangchuk from Bhutan who did it in 5:04:49 hrs.
A total of 31 riders out of the 66 riders who participated in the contest on Thursday completed the course and reached Thangu. The rest of the participants who could not complete within the stipulated time of eight hours.The riders will halt at Thangu for the night and all they will be competing for the ultimate ride to Gurudongmar on 29th. The riders belong to a varied background that includes elite professional riders, doctors, bureaucrats amateurs, armed personnel who have all come together to participate in the grand event.
EPIC 17K MTB Race, the toughest stage covering a total distance of 83 kilometers from Lachung to Thangu was flagged off earlier today from Lachung by the District Collector, North Shri Karma R Bonpo IAS. The Lachung Dzumsa put in a culture show for the participants and thanks giving ceremony was held for the sponsoring hotels before the race. A total of 75 hotel rooms were sponsored by various hotels of Lachung. The Youths of Lachung provided full co-operation and support for the organizing the event at Lachung. The event has generated excitement among the youths of Lachung who are now looking forward for hosting the future editions of the race.The main sponsor of the event is the Honourable Minister, Forest Environment and Wildlife Management Department. The event carries the theme of ‘Secure Himalaya’ for the conversation of locally and globally significant biodiversity and forest resource of Himalayan ecosystem. The event is also promoting the message of Beti Bachao Beti Padhao.
