Sikkim’s COVID-19 tally reaches 6,405 with 54 new cases reported over 24 hours

GANGTOK: The COVID-19 tally of Sikkim rose to 6,405 after 54 fresh cases were reported yesterday.

The state currently has 169 active cases; while 5,983 recoveries and 136 fatalities have been reported.

According to reports, 10 of the 54 are tourists. The tourists who have been identified as COVID-19 positive are untraceable, despite the fact that the health department is trying to track them.

Moreover, four Sikkim MLAs tested positive after returning from a Gujarat tour following the 'Dandi March' event.

Furthermore, due to an increase in COVID-19 cases, all educational institutions in Sikkim, including government and private colleges, will remain closed until April 20.

The state government in a statement said, "Officers and workers of all grades, including teaching and non-teaching staff, employed in government, government-aided, and private educational institutions in Sikkim must be vaccinated against Covid-19 if they are 45 years or older."

“All activities related to CBSE exams slated during this time shall be resumed after April 20, 2021, as per the convenience of the CBSE Centre Superintendents,” the order continued.

During this time, however, online education will be accessible, according to the order.

On the other hand, Sikkim Chief Minister PS Tamang received his first dose of Covid19 vaccine on Sunday at STNM Hospital.

The Covid-19 vaccine was also given to his wife, Krishna Rai, ministers, and other officers.
