Guwahati, February 4, 2019:

The Manipur administration has undertaken yet another operation to control the drug epidemic in the state. As per standard procedure, they have destroyed about 123 acres of poppy that was being cultivated to procure opium, the highly addictive painkiller.

A combined team of Narcotics and Affairs of Border (NAB), Narcotics Control Bureau (NCB), 7th Manipur Rifles armed personnel, district police of Imphal East and Kangpokpi, personnel of Home Guard Manipur, personnel of Departments of agriculture, district administration, under the supervision of the SP of NAB destroyed the poppy crop at Chanung Chingmang, Laikot Hill ranges, Kangpokpi district under Sagolmang Police Station.

A case has been registered at NAB police station for further investigation.
