NEW DELHI: In view of the rapid surge in COVID-19 cases in the national capital here, the Supreme Court of India will hear only urgent matters from tomorrow.
In a circular, the apex court has stated that as part of the standard operating procedure, it has been notified that “only urgent matters will be listed for hearing w.e.f. 22.04.2021”. The court has issued a list of about 16 categories of matters to be treated as urgent.
The matters already listed in the miscellaneous matters and regular hearings for tomorrow and thereafter have been adjourned.

The development came after a number of Supreme Court employees have been infected with coronavirus.
For urgent hearings, the advocate or the person concerned will have to apply in writing through email giving the synopsis and the grounds for urgency of the matter by 1 pm on weekdays and by 11.30 am on Saturdays to be listed for the next earliest possible date subject to availability of bench concerned.
The urgent matters will also be heard in complete compliance with the set COVID-19 regulations.
