Gangtok (Sikkim), 30 July 2018:

Sikkim Chief Minister Pawan Kumar Chamling launched the “Swachh Survekshan Grameen – 2018” at the State Level Sammelan for Rural and Urban Local Bodies – 2018 held at Manan Kendra, here on Monday.

Chamling urged everyone to keep all villages and urban areas clean and put in all their efforts to ensure that all the districts perform to their very best in the survey.

The “Swachh Survekshan Grameen – 2018” is a pan-India survey initiated by the Union Ministry of Drinking Water & Sanitation to rank 680 districts based on their rural sanitation status.

The survey would be based on a comprehensive set of quantitative and qualitative swachhata parameters, including data from SBM-G IMIS, district-level surveys of public places like schools, Anganwadis, PHCs, haatbazaars, panchayat and citizens’ perception of swachhata and their recommendations for improvement of the programme.

An independent agency has been hired by the ministry that will visit villages to undertake the survey. As part of the survekshan (survey), States and districts will be ranked for their sanitation and cleanliness status. The survey will be conducted from 1st to 31st August this year, following which, top performing States and districts will be awarded nationally on 2nd October 2018.
