BANGLADESH: On the occasion of International Womens’ Day, Tashnuva Anan Shishir, a transgender, will start off her career in news at Boishakhi Television, a private satellite television channel for the first time.

 

Shishir will be seen presenting news bulletin in a regular basis from today, the channel said in a statement.

 

According to reports, the channel has come up with this first initiative to commemorate not only International Women's Day today but also the country's 50th anniversary of independence on March 26.

 

Speaking about her appointment as a news anchor, Shishir said she and her community is overwhelmed with this.

"Individuals in the group have long been bullied and abused, and only exposure like this will help them thrive as members of society," she said.

 

Shishir's dream is to form a group of talented transgender singers, performers, and media personalities to raise awareness about the challenges they face.

 

"I want to support these people in establishing long-term livelihoods. People's abilities must take precedence over their gender identities "she further said.

 

Shishir is a renowned model and social worker. It has been so long she is into acting.

Shishir began her acting career in 2007 with the theatre troupe Natua and was a part of the theatre troupe BotTola for more than two years.

 

She also appeared in many notable productions as well.

 

She has also signed up for two movies and will play the role of a female football coach in one of the films.

 

Besides that, she was also the Executive Officer for the National Human Rights Commission of Bangladesh and a dancer and a voice artiste.
