HYDERABAD: As part of the Green India Challenge in Telangana around one million saplings were planted in one hour on Sunday, setting a new world record for the largest such plantation exercise.
The event which was organized by Telangana Rashtra Samiti Rajya Sabha MP J Santosh Kumar is expected to break the Guinness Book of World Records.
In Turkey, a previous high of 3.03 lakh seedlings was set in 2019.

During the event over 30,000 Telangana Rashtra Samiti members including locals took part in the drive which also served as a birthday celebration for Telangana's forest and environment minister A Indra Karan Reddy.
In the degraded forest area of 200 acres, at least five lakh saplings were planted following the Miyawaki model.
Four years ago, the Green India Challenge was created with the goal of increasing green cover.
Green India Challenge founded by TRS MP Santosh Kumar, has roped in celebrities, politicians, environmentalists and members of the general public from all over the world and has been working tirelessly to plant saplings, adopt and conserve forests, natural resources, encourage organic farming, and raise awareness about the importance of a pollutant-free environment for our next generation.
