IMPHAL: Manipur chief minister N Biren Singh received his first dose of COVID-19 vaccine as the nation prepares for 'Tika Utsav', the second war against COVID-19 pandemic under Prime Minister Narendra Modi, from today onwards.

Tika Utsav was launched at the Jawaharlal Nehru Institute of Medical Sciences in Imphal, where after getting vaccinated, N Biren Singh took his social media handle to thank PM Modi and encourage the public to take part in Tika Utsav from April 11 to April 14.

"My deep appreciation to PM Shri Narendra Modi Ji for his unswerving concern for the people of the State, calling me this morning to urge my people to participate in the Tika Utsav from April 11-14," a part of the tweet from Singh read.

As the second wave of COVID-19 is hitting the country, the conditions are getting worse. New Delhi reported 10,732 positive cases in the last 24 hours. As per the health ministry's report, since the COVID-19 outbreak, five states Maharashtra, Chhattisgarh, Karnataka, Uttar Pradesh, and Kerala have breached the 11-lakh mark for the first time.

Though Tika Utsav has been started on PM Modi's call to encourage more and more people to get vaccinated, reports of many vaccination centers getting shut down due to the vaccine shortage are coming to light as well across the country. Even Maharashtra received a very less percentage of vaccines this week as compared to their spreading rate.
