IMPHAL: In the latest development, the Indian Railways successfully completed a trial run of the passenger train between Assam's Silchar to Manipur's Vangaichungpao in Tamenglong district today.
This is the first passenger train service to Vaingaichunpao railway station, which is about 11 kilometres from Jiribam.
Officials from Silchar railway station, who arrived in Jiribam on a Rajdhani Express train yesterday morning flagged off the trial train in the presence of Jiribam residents.
The railway line's link will provide a variety of benefits to the people of the state, he said, adding that trains will soon reach Imphal after the remaining tunnels are completed, said Nripen Bhattacharya, Senior Public Relations Officer, North East Frontier (NF) Railway.

Apart from enabling Manipur residents to travel to other areas of the country, the extension of railway service between Vaingaichunpao and Silchar will be extremely advantageous to the state.
According to reports, the Vaingaichunpao-Imphal railway line is also being built, with the goal of completing the longest railway tunnel near Imphal.
