Tripura CPI(M) has urged the State Government to provide at least Rs 5,000 as one-time relief to the daily wage laborers and provide free ration for one month to each of the households, which do not have any government-undertaking employees.
Addressing a press conference here in the state headquarters of the party, State Secretary Goutom Das said, “We have seen that the government has taken a number of steps and appealed to the people to be safe and aware of the novel corona virus pandemic. Prime Minister Narendra Modi also urged people to stay at home and not to come out without any emergency. But the global crisis is leaving a bad impact on the state economy and the daily laborers are the worst sufferers”.
The Government, he added, must ensure economic security of the daily wage earners, rickshaw pullers, peasant, masons who are dependent on their work for the daily bread and butter. “We want to draw the attention of the State Government to ensure, at least, Rs 5,000 as a relief for people belonging to those section of the society”, Das said.
The Tripura Left leader also appealed the government to provide free rations to all the ration cardholders except the government employees. “The government must provide free rations to every ration card holder, barring those who are employed with the government or some government undertaking agency. In this time of crisis, the government must provide relief to the people who are in fear of the unknown”, said Das.
He also urged the Government to provide free masks to everyone and take appropriate measures to thwart any attempt of creating artificial crisis in the markets of the state. The party would observe integration day across the country to combat the pandemic, the Tripura CPI(M) leader added.
It needs mention here that on Sunday, India followed the 'Janata Curfew' called by PM Modi and the general public stayed at their respective residences. The Janata Curfew has been extended till 8 AM on March 23 in Assam.
India has seen a sharp rise in the total cases of coronavirus. On Sunday, India reported 341 cases and till the filing of this report, seven people have died. 75 districts in the corona-hit states of the country have been directed to observe complete lockdown till March 31 as a precautionary measure against the pandemic.
