Tripura: Duo Sentenced to Death for Rape and Murder of Minor Girl

In a landmark judgment, a local court of Udaipur in Gomati district of Tripura today awarded capital punishment to two accused in a minor's rape and murder case.

Reportedly, on December 5, 2018, a minor girl had been abducted and raped by the accused duo Kastarai Tripura and Bhanjay Tripura.

After the inhuman torture, the two accused had reportedly buried the dead body of the girl in a jungle. The incident took place at Krishbakanta Para under Natunbazar of Amarpur subdivision in Tripura.

Later, the family members of the girl lodged a complaint with the local police station and the local authorities filed their charge-sheet after a thorough investigation. The brutal rape and murder of the young girl sent shockwaves across Tripura and soon a demand was raised by the citizenry to sentence the duo behind the heinous crime to death.

The accused duo was subsequently nabbed and forwarded to the court accordingly. The Court after a prolonged spell of hearing on Wednesday found them guilty, but reserved the orders.

In its order today, the Court pronounced capital punishment for the accused duo. The accused were charged with sections 376(D)/302/363/201(34) of IPC and 6 of the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POSCO) Act.
