Tripura Elephant Babulal 'Murders' Female Partner Fulmala

Agartala, December 22, 2019:

Babulal, a 27-year-old jumbo, has killed his female partner Fulmala, aged 40. On Saturday, Babulal attacked Fulmala and she fall into a pit of an incomplete culvert, where she died instantly. The incident took place at Kumarghat subdivision of Unokoti District in Tripura.

Both Babulal and Fulmala were captive elephants and their owner used them for carrying wooden logs. Now, Babulal's murder of his female partner has created sensation in the entire area.

The mahout Mukit Miah said that the male jumbo Babulal on Saturday attacked his female partner in a fit of aggression. The incident took place along National Highway 8 at Sidongchara area in Pecharthal while the mahut was headed to work with the two jumbos.

The deceased elephant Fulmala was 40 years old and Babulal is now 27. According to Miah, Babulal had attacked Fulmala at home, and later, while they were heading to work, Babulal pushed Fulmala into the drain, which resulted in her death. Miah has confirmed that he too was attacked by the errant jumbo, Babulal, upon which he was immediately referred to Silchar for treatment.

On being informed by locals, a forest officials’ team reached the spot and recovered the dead elephant.

Tripura forest officials are saying that the female elephant died due to her body weight. After falling down the culvert, Fulmala's neck was completely fractured, as a result of which, she dies on the spot.
