Tripura: Himanta Biswa Sarma Provides Strategic Boost to BJP Ahead of Autonomous Council Election

Agartala, October 30, 2019:

NEDA chairman and Assam Finance Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma visited Tripura capital Agartala on Tuesday very "secretly", reportedly to discuss the party strategies ahead of the Autonomous District Council election in the state.

Sources in the BJP said that Sarma came to Tripura to discuss the ongoing organizational elections. According to sources, Himanta called on the chief minister Biplab Kumar Deb in the state secretariat and discussed Tripura's "developmental requirements".

Apart from Biplab Kumar Deb, Himanta Biswa Sarma had met Deputy Chief Minister Jishnu Devbarman, MP Pratima Bhowmik, and state BJP general secretary Rajib Bhattacharjee.

Himanta gave concrete suggestions to the party unit on how to take the ongoing organizational elections to logical conclusion and strengthen the party here for upcoming electoral battles, especially in the ADC polls to be held next year.

It may be mentioned here that allies IPFT has already decided to contest the ADC election on their own.

If BJP will agree with those conditions, they will make an alliance with BJP in ADC election. BJP sources said, Himanta Biswa only met with three or four BJP leaders on Tuesday, and then he went to Shanti Kali Ashram at Champak Nagar at Tuesday noon and participated there in a ‘Jagya’. He also held a closed door meeting with Ashram Maharaj Chitta Debbarma at that Ashram.

BJP sources said that Himanta came here to discuss about the plan and tactic on ADC election. Chitta Debbarma has a strong hold among the tribal people of this state. And since long time he is a BJP sympathizer and also has a good relation with the BJP top leaders of Tripura.

May be BJP want to utilize Chitta Debbarma’s image in coming ADC election.

Biplab Deb has written in his face book page regarding the meeting with Himanta Biswa Sarma. He wrote, “Met Honorable Minister, Gov't of Assam and my senior party colleague at BJP Himanta Biswa Sarma ji in Agartala today. Had wide range of discussion regarding Govt and Party.”

Intimating about his visit on Facebook, Himanta Biswa Sarma wrote, “On a visit to Agartala glad to have met Hon CM Tripura Biplab Kumar Deb We discussed a range of issues pertaining to progress of the region. I complimented Biplab Kumar Deb for the good work being done by him to constantly take Tripura to new heights of prosperity.”
