Agartala, November 11, 2019:

A house wife from Tripura, who was sold to Haryana for marriage, has been rescued by Tripura police. The housewife was rescued from Haryana, and a person has been arrested in this case.

In a tragic incident reminiscent of a Hollywood thriller, a house wife of Tripura who had been smuggled by traffickers to far-off Haryana was finally recovered by police personnel of Kumarghat subdivision, Unokoti District on November 9 and brought back to her home.

Police sources from Kumarghat said that on October 12, Ashraf Ali, a resident of Guwahati, had lured the house wife from Betchara village of Kumarghat by promising to give her job in a private company at Siliguri, and taken her to Guwahati.

Pradyut Datta, the officer in-charge of Kumarghat police station said that, from Guwahati the house wife was taken to Delhi, and then to Haryana. Ashraf Ali reportedly sold the house wife to a certain Surbinder Singh with the price tag of Rs. 1 lakh.

The house wife said that the 'buyer' Subinder Singh married her forcibly, and took her to his village. There were days when she was being started, and suffered great torment at the hands of Singh and kin.

Finally one day the house wife managed to grab a mobile set and informed her husband in Kumarghat, Tripura, regarding her condition.

Her husband informed this to the Kumarghat police station and filed a case. Kumarghat police formed a special team and located the tower location of the phone. The police team went to Haryana, and rescued the house wife and brought to Kumarghat on Sunday evening.

Police also arrested Surbinder Singh, but Ashraf Ali is absconding. It is notable that in the month of August, two tribal girl of Tripura who were trafficked by the smugglers, had also been rescued in Haryana.
