Agartala, February 9, 2020:

The Tripura version of the Hornbill Festival is underway at the Baramura or Hathai Kotor Eco Park in Teliamura.

The Hornbill Festival is aimed at promoting ecotourism and raise awareness about the state’s Hornbill birds. Promotion of Tripura’s culture and strengthening local communities is the main focus of the two-day festival.

Chief Minister Biplab Kumar Deb inaugurated the state’s first-ever Hornbill Festival on Saturday. He also unveiled Hornbill view point and inaugurated Log Huts for the tourists in the Eco Park. The festival registered a massive gathering.

While addressing the gathering at Teliamura Town Hall, the Chief Minister said the festival would raise awareness among the people about the Hornbills.

The Chief Minister said, “Hornbills never break discipline whatever the situation is. This is the biggest thing, which we can learn from these birds. If we apply the same in our lives, we can achieve cent percent success.” He advised the students to accept the lifestyle of Hornbills and apply it in their lives.

The Hornbill Festival, the Chief Minister said, would not only encourage bird and nature lovers but also create awareness on Hornbill birds and promote the state’s eco-tourism sector to a great extent.

Apart from the proposed vulture and elephant points, the newly-inaugurated Hornbill point would attract more tourists and subsequently generate income among the people and strengthen local economy, the Chief Minister said.

Meanwhile, the Hornbill conservation at Baramura Eco Park is an initiative to encourage bird lovers, nature enthusiasts and photographers. It is mostly known for Oriental Pied Hornbills.

While addressing the programme, the Chief Minister also spoke on various government initiatives and laid stress on making ‘self-sufficient Tripura’. Referring to Mann Ki Baat programme, the Chief Minister said, Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi gives priority up to the last man of the society-- he always listens to the common people.

Citing this, the Chief Minister said, Beni Chandra Jamatia was not much known even to the people of his locality- Maharani. But, Prime Minister Narendra Modi picked him up and honoured with Padma Shri which is one of the best instances we can refer to, the Chief Minister added.

Tourism minister Pranajit Singha Roy, Forest minister Mevar Kumar Jamatia, local MLA and chief whip of Assembly Kalyani Roy among other dignitaries were also present in the programme.

Meanwhile, the Chief Minister accompanied by other guests visited various stalls opened at the venue and interacted with local people. A presentation on conservation of the Hornbills was displayed in the programme.
