A non-bailable warrant has been issued against Tripura’s Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) MLA Krishnadhan Das for leading a rally unlawfully before the political change of guard was elected from Bamutia constituency.
Speaking with Inside Northeast, Assistant Public Prosecutor Bidyut Sutradhar confirmed the report and said that it was related to a case prior to the last assembly elections. “The court has issued a non-bailable warrant against him. He was booked for attending a political rally which was not permitted by the police authorities” he said, adding, “The order was possibly passed on January 28 last.”

On the other hand, the police department remained tight lipped to leak anything regarding the case. Some sources in the department who wished to remain anonymous informed that the order was passed in relation to a political rally of 2016.
“In 2016, the then Chief Minister Manik Sarkar was generated by the BJP leaders as a part of their protest programme. Krishnadhan Das was one of the BJP activists who were named in the case in West Agartala police station. A Charge-sheet had been submitted recently on the case”, the source told this reporter.

Officer-in-charge, Airport Police Station Sashi Mohan Debbarma, who had been entrusted to execute the court orders, said that he had no knowledge of any such warrants.
“There are many warrants in the police station. I can’t exactly remember of any such warrant right now”, Debbarma said over phone. However, none of the police officials could be traced to have a comment on the issue officially.
