Tripura Police arrests 9 drug peddlers; recovers contraband valued at over Rs 40 lakh

AGARTALA: Tripura Police arrested nine drug peddlers here and recovered 23 gram of brown sugar besides 60 kg of marijuana.

The arrests and subsequent seizure was made during raids at two different locations in the city.

The seized contraband drug is valued at over Rs 40 lakh in the grey market.

A four-wheeler, two motorcycles, six mobile phone handsets and Rs 1.3 lakh in cash were also recovered from the possession of the accused.

A case has been registered under the Narcotics Drugs and Psychotropic Substances Act, 1985.

It may be mentioned that scores of drug peddlers from across the state have been arrested and contraband items valued at more than crores rupees recovered in recent time.

On March 28, the state police had arrested a man and recovered drugs valued at over Rs 10 lakh at Narayanpur in West Tripura district.

The state shares 856 km international border with Bangladesh and large parts of Moulvibazar, Rangamati and Khagrachari districts are along the border.

Narcotics and other contraband items are often smuggled to India through these porous borders.
