Tripura Police in a major crackdown on illegal trade of sandalwood have seized around 8900 kg of the forest product worth a whopping Rs 25 crore in Agartala.
A joint team of the Tripura Forest department, State Police department and Border Security Force (BSF) recovered the huge sandalwood consignment from a storehouse of a tobacco company in Badharghat.

According to police, the tobacco company also had rubber and pan masala business running under its banner. Another company called the DH group had occupied the storehouse wherefrom the sandalwood was recovered.

The storehouse was in an abandoned state after the company stopped functioning six months ago. The seized sandalwood will be sent for identification in the laboratory. If found that it is white, the price of the sandalwood will be Rs 25 crore.
