Dhaka has finally issued a no-objection certificate (NOC) to set up two more border “haats” (markets) along the India-Bangladesh border in Tripura after two years of wait.
At present, four border haats are functional along the India-Bangladesh border in Tripura and Meghalaya.

The newly launched “haats” are set up in Kamalpur and Raghna in northern Tripura along the Bangladesh border.
Reportedly, Union Commerce and Industries Ministry would release around Rs 3.25 crore for each border haat’s development.
Moreover, two more border haats are also being proposed at Radhanagar (Ghoshkhamar) in southern Tripura and Belchara in western Tripura. These two proposed locations are to be finalized after the joint visit of India and Bangladesh government officials.

In the recent India-Bangladesh Stakeholders’ Meet held in Assam’s Guwahati, Tripura CM Biplab Kumar Deb raised the demand of more border haat in the state along the Bangladesh Border.
