AGARTALA: The academic council of Tripura University sent a proposal to the ministry of human resource development and the university grants council (UGC) for introducing diploma courses in Japanese, Korean, Nepali, and Manipuri languages.
The university urged the MHRD and the UGC to approve their proposal so that the diploma courses in these four languages can be started from the next academic session.
The University further stated that it is mulling introducing courses in these languages as there is a growing trend among students in India to learn foreign languages.
The proposed diploma courses in Japanese, Korean, Nepali, and Manipuri languages will be of 1-year duration.
Moreover, the varsity is also planning to introduce subjects like National Security Studies, Social Work and Manipuri dance in its post-graduate programme.
