After much speculation, it seems the Tripura BJP-IPFT government has finally met all requirements to open the first ever flyover road in the state’s capital town of Agartala. The much-awaited flyover is likely to be inaugurated on August 15 during the Independence Day celebration in the State.
According to official source, the Tripura government after proper enquiry into it has got clearance from three separate department including traffic and others to open the 1.5 kilometers long flyover for public. “If everything falls in the right track, the flyover will be inaugurated on August 15,” said official.
The construction work of the flyover was completed in early 2018 but it has not been opened to the public due to safety concerns.
After coming to power the BJP-IPFT coalition government this year in the month of March has lodged FIR against two retired Chief Engineers of PWD department under Prevention of Corruption Act (PCA) accusing them of being involved in over Rs. 300 Cr irregularities in construction of this 1.5 kms long flyover connecting AD Nagar police line with Battala-Melarmath area with a diversion to Fire Brigade Chowmuhani.
Finally, after several inspections and enquiry into this, the Tripura government has got clearance to open this flyover for the people of this state.
The flyover, the first in the state, will be 2.26 km long, stretching from the police line (Drop Gate) in southern Agartala to Fire Brigade chowmuhuni (square) in the heart of the city.
