In a joint operation by the Crime Investigation Range of Biswanath wildlife Division and Gingia Police personnel, two notorious rhino poachers were arrested from National Highway 15 near Cristal Maze of Baghamari area of Biswanath district on Friday.
The arrested poachers have been identified as Md. Habit Ali and Md. Abdul Sohid.
Both the poachers hail from Boludunga village under Biswanath Chariali Police Station.
Police recovered two .303 rifles, one mobile phone and a motorcycle from their possession.
The two teams of Forest and Police were led by Ranger Pranjal Baruah, Crime Investigation Range, Biswanath Charali, DSP of Biswanath Chariali Mussabar Rahman and OC Biswajit Medhi of Gingia PS.
A case has been registered against them in Gingia Police Station with reference number CIR/04 OF 2019 DATE 14/06/2019.
It is to be mentioned that one of the culprits Hanif Ali was arrested by Agaratali range in connection with a case relating to attempt of poaching rhino in early January this year.
Assam Forest Minister Parimal Suklabaidya congratulated the whole operational team and the Directorate of Kaziranga for this major success and has appealed to all the people of the state to come forward and extend full cooperation to the forest department in eliminating the evils and take the preservation of nature as one of the greatest human responsibilities.
