Under-Construction Building at Imphal Airport Collapses, Trapped Workers Rescued by Security Personnel

Imphal, September 20, 2019:

The roof of an under-construction cargo terminal building at Tulihal airport collapsed while workers were working on the site on September 18.

Troops of the Indian Army and Assam Rifles immediately rushed to the site and rescued eight workers from the accident spot.

They were then given necessary treatment by the unit medical team and immediately evacuated to RIMS hospital in Imphal.

The troops also made an airway into the fallen debris to ensure inlet of air into the fallen debris for breathing by the trapped workers.

Sniffer dogs were also employed to search for workers trapped in the debris.

The Police, fire services and officials of Airport were immediately informed and immediately rushed to the site.

The IG Police along with Additional Chief Secretary Disaster Management, Director Bir Tikendrajit Airport, and other State Civil and Police officials also reached the location to inspect the accident site.
