NEW DELHI: The services on social media applications WhatsApp, Instagram, and Facebook have suffered an outage globally last night.

Users were unable to send or receive messages or post anything.

Some users also claimed that they were unable to access WhatsApp web as well.

The issue was detected around 10.40 pm in India which eventually prevented users from sending or receiving messages on the service for over an hour.

However, WhatsApp is claiming that the service was down for only 45 minutes.

“Nothing comes between you and your privacy. Messaging with a business is optional, and their chats are clearly labeled on the app. You are in control,” WhatsApp tweeted on Twitter after it restored the service.

Even though the company didn’t reveal the exact reason behind the outages, there was reportedly a technical glitch.

The company apologized for the inconvenience and said they have resolved the issue for everyone now.

According to reports of Downdetector, a site that tracks outages by collating status reports from users and some other sources, over 28,500 people reported issues with Instagram, while 34,127 had faced problems with WhatsApp.

Over 49 % of WhatsApp users were facing connection issues, while 48 % of people were unable to send or receive messages and 2 % were not able to log in.

In the case of Facebook, 57 % of users reported the total blackout, while 29% of users were unable to access the app.

On Instagram, around 66 % of users were unable to access News Feed and its official website.

In December last year, WhatsApp went down alongside Instagram and Facebook in a similar fashion for a few hours.
