AGARTALA: Pradyot Manikya Debbarma, the TIPRA chairman and scion of the erstwhile Manikya dynasty today said that he will declare his final stance on 'Tirpasas and Greater Tipraland' at a planned rally in Bishramganj, a small town which is the headquarter of Sipahijala district in Tripura.

"Whoever supports me, I appel them to listen to me speak at the rally today," Manikya said in a 'Facebook live' shot en route to the rally earlier today. "I have come under immense duress in the recent times. Today, however, I will speak my mind. Therefore, I urge all to be in attendance there."

Calling for unity among the Tiprasas, Pradyot said, "The final stance taken by TIPRA and me -- if we become united and go out together, no one can stop us. However, if we let our diffences show, our cause will be dented."

"Today, we shall be able to speak boldly in Bishramganj for our future. I hope we will be bold enough to fight out our rights on our soil," Hrangkhawl, who is travelling with Pradyot, added.

Elections to the 30-member Tripura Tribal Areas Autonomous District Council (TTAADC) will be held on April 4, the State Election Commission said on Tuesday.

State Election Commissioner Manik Lal Dey said that the counting of votes will take place on April 8.

The last date for submission of nominations is March 12, while the documents will be scrutinised on March 15 and the last date for withdrawal of the nominations is March 17, he said.

The term of the council expired on May 17 last year, but the election was deferred by the State Election Commission due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

However, the Christian community of the Northeast Indian state has appealed to the Tripura Election Commission to reschedule the Tripura Tribal Areas Autonomous District Council (TTAADC) polls to be held on April 4 as it clashes with Easter Sunday.
