NEW DELHI: Union Home Minister Amit Shah on Monday took stock of the preparedness of Assam, Sikkim and Meghalaya to deal with Cyclone Yaas.
Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma informed Shah that emergency services have been put into action. The Chief Minister also thanked the Union Home Minister for showing concern.
"Cyclone Yaas is likely to affect the region on 26-27 May. Union Home Minister Amit Shah called and enquired about the preparedness of Assam, Sikkim and Meghalaya. Informed that emergency services have been pressed into action," Sarma said in a tweet.
According to India Meteorological Department (IMD) Assam and Meghalaya are likely to receive heavy to very heavy rainfall on May 26 and 27.
In view of the approaching cyclone, the Eastern Railway cancelled a total of 25 trains till May 29
