'Air India' Refuses Tickets to Government Defaulters on Credit

New Delhi, December 27, 2019:

In a bid to recover the pending dues from other government departments, India’s flag air carrier Air India has stopped giving tickets on credit to government defaulters.

The cash-strapped Air India has commenced the initiative last month to recover pending dues from other government departments which owed it over Rs 10 lakh in dues for tickets availed for official travel.

The country’s one of the largest air carriers has also stopped issuing tickets to these departments. However, the AAI and the Ministry of Civil Aviation have been exempted from the move.

Air India has also demanded immediate clearance of dues and until then no tickets will be issued on credit to the officials of these departments.

According to reports, Air India has made it clear that any department will not issue any tickets to any department on credit that possesses a due of over Rs 10 lakh. The department will be required to pay upfront to purchase the tickets. Till now the initiative which was started last month has helped us to recover Rs 50 crore.

Reportedly, the air carrier is yet to recover Rs 220 crore worth of dues are still pending with different government departments.

It is to be mentioned here that in view of the uncertainty looming over the fate of Air India, the pilot union of the airlines has requested the Central government to allow them to quit from their service, without serving their notice periods.

Moreover, the Air India Pilot Union complained that in the last 2-3 years, its members have not received salaries and flying allowances on time. Presently, flying allowance constitutes 70 per cent of pilots’ pay package.
