Ashok Leyland Declares 'Non-Working Days' Due to Fall in Product Demand

Guwahati, September 27, 2019:

Ashok Leyland has declared 'non-working days' for five of its factories across the country.

September 28, October 1, October 8,9 and October 30 will the ‘non-working days’ of the company.

The declaration came up days after Ashok Leyland reported a sharp drop of 47 percent in its sales in the month of August.

India’s major vehicle commercial said that the declaration of ‘non-working days’ at various plant locations is ‘due to weak demand of the products.

The official statement added, “As the sluggishness and contraction in the commercial vehicle market continues, it has been decided to continue the corrective actions to safeguard the interest of the company.”

In Chennai’s Ennore, the number of ‘non-working days’ would be 16 and 1 at Hosur. At Alwar, Rajasthan it would be 10 while in Maharashtra the number of ‘non-working days’ will be 10. UP’s Pantnagar plant will have 18 ‘non-working days’.

Earlier in a statement, the company had said that it sold a total of 9,231 units in August, down from 17,386 units sold during the corresponding month in 2018.

Ashok Leyland's bus sales last month stood at 1,799 units, up from 1,441 units sold in August 2018.
