Amid the uncertainties that loomed over the opening of the educational institutions, the Assam Down Town University has announced that the classes of new batches of the university will begin from September 1st, 2020.
The classes will be conducted virtually, the university informed.
The university will ensure that all the notes, learning materials and even the practical videos will be shared to all the students through Learning Management System (LMS).
It may be mentioned that the educational institutions have remained close since March 15th, 2020 due to the COVID-19 outbreak in the country that has infected over 1.11 million people and claimed more than 20 thousand people so far.
Meanwhile, the COVID-19 positivity rate has fallen to 5 percent in Assam, state Health Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma claimed on July 20th, 2020.
The state reported 1093 new COVID-19 cases in the last 24 hours; of which 448 were reported in Guwahati alone. Of the total 25,092 confirmed COVID-19 cases, 7936 are active and 17,095 have been cured and discharged so far while 58 died due to the infection.

A total of 1072 patients were discharged on July 20th, 2020. The minister claimed that the recovery rate has bounced back from a low of about 20 percent to 71 percent.
Assam reported highest ever spike in COVID-19 cases on July 17th, 2020. It reported 1218 new COVID-19 cases including 570 from Guwahati alone.
The state crossed 20,000 mark in COVID-19 cases on July 16th, 2020 while crossed the 1000-mark in 60 days. It reported the first case on March 31st, 2020.
It may be mentioned, on July 16th, 2020, a total of 184 inmates of the Guwahati Central Jail were tested positive for the lethal coronavirus.
