Donald Trump’s Visit to India Aimed at Boosting America’s Economy: BJP MP Subramanian Swamy

New Delhi, February 23, 2020:

US President Donald Trump’s visit to India will benefit the US and not India, says Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) MP Subramanian Swamy ahead of his much-awaited visit.

Swamy views Donald Trump’s visit to India is to boost the American economy and not the Indian. While addressing a gathering, he said, “There may be some defence agreements. That will boost his country. Above all, we are paying for the defence equipments and he is not giving it for free.”

CPM General Secretary Sitaram Yechury also agreed that Trump’s visit to India will not profit India. “We are worried over his visit. The US President is coming to draw concessions for US farmers.”

It may be mentioned here that Trump is scheduled to arrive in India on Monday. Preparations in Ahemedabad are in full swing to welcome the US President.

However, when it comes to trade talks, Trump recently made a statement that “India does not treat America very well,” and that trade talks have been postponed for a later stage. His statement signaled at fewer trade deals between India and America.

It needs mention here that the trade deal of both the countries centre round the market for American manufacturers of stents and other medical devices and dairy farmers. While America is interested in the said market segments, India had offered a partial access to its poultry and dairy markets in an effort to sign a limited trade deal, a report said on February 14.
