Soon after the announcement of voluntary retirement schemes by the state-run telecom service providers, the Union government on Friday announced that the programme has received 50,000 applications from Bharat Sanchar Nigam Limited (BSNL) and MTNL has been able to get 3,000 employees opting for the scheme in just 4 days.
Over 50,000 employees of BSNL staff have chosen the Voluntary Retirement Scheme (VRS) over the last 4 days.
In MTNL, around 3000 employees out of the target of 15,000, have opted for the VRS. In BSNL, the target was 83,000 employees for VRS.
According to the BSNL Voluntary Retirement Scheme, all regular and permanent employees including those on deputation to other organizations or posted outside BSNL on a deputation basis, who attained the age of 50 years or above are eligible to seek voluntary retirement.
It may be mentioned here that the state-run telecom service provider in a communication to the circle heads said, “In pursuance to the decision of the Union Cabinet and conveyed by Department of Telecommunications (DoT), the BSNL Voluntary Retirement Scheme – 2019 is being circulated to all concerned and invites options from employees eligible under the scheme for seeking voluntary retirement as per the provision of the scheme.”
