SpiceJet flight from Guwahati-Dhaka, which was flagged off on July 1, has been suspended indefinitely. SpiceJet took this though decision due to a lack of passengers.
The flight, which initially used to operate on a regulate basis, saw its frequency reduced to twice a week due to lukewarm response.
Similarly, the Guwahati-Dhaka bus service, which was launched in 2014, also never became operation due to an apparent lack of farsightedness on the Government's part.
The Guwahati-Dhaka SpiceJet service to Dhaka was launched amid much fanfare and the first flight was flagged off by Assam Chief Minister Sarbananda Sonowal himself, as part of the Government's International Udan scheme.
SpiceJet was selected in January to operate flights to Dhaka and Bangkok under the Assam government’s initiative to boost international connectivity.
It is to be mentioned here that the budget airline will launch 46 new non-stop flights on its domestic network in October. The new flights will begin in phases starting October 27.
