Social media giant Facebook-owned WhatsApp on Monday announced to invest $250,000 worth ad credits into the Indian startup ecosystem. This has been announced to help the Indian startup entrepreneurs to connect better with customers, and grow businesses.
The investment will provide $500 Facebook ad credits each to 500 startups approved by the Department of Industrial Policy and Promotion.

An official statement said that the startups can create ads inviting customers to click to open a chat on WhatsApp with the allotted credits in order to deepen connections and increase sales.
The startups must be at an early traction or scalable stage and must be recognized by DPIIT to be eligible for the credit. First-come-first-serve will be selection procedure, and once registered, the first 500 entries will receive free Facebook ad credits worth $500.
Reportedly, in India, 1 million businesses are actively using the WhatsApp Business app to have meaningful conversations with their customers. Globally, five million businesses are using WhatsApp.

The investment is part of a tie-up under the banner of Startup India which is a flagship initiative of the government launched in 2016.
