Meghalaya extends lockdown in Assam border areas

The Meghalaya Government has decided that the locations in the state bordering Guwahati i.e Byrnihat, Jorabat till Khanapara will be under lockdown due to the surge in Corona cases in Assam. The inter-state movement continues to be restricted. DC will issue necessary orders accordingly.

The move comes at a time when the Assam government has initiated lockdown for the entire state during weekends. As for Guwahati, complete lockdown has been given for all days starting 28th May for 14 days.

Assam reported a total of 327 COVID-19 cases on June 28th, 2020 taking the state’s total to 7492. Of the 7492 cases, 2390 are active cases while 5088 have been cured and discharged and nine died due to the infection in the state so far. Guwahati alone reported a surge of 195 cases on June 29th, 2020.

As cases rise in Assam, Meghalaya's lockdown decision can be seen as way to curb the spread.

Earlier, one more traveller who came from Assam has tested positive for COVID19 in Ri-Bhoi District and has been kept under quarantine.

Two more Armed forces personnel have tested positive for COVID19 in Shillong. Total Cases 50 Total Active cases 7. Conrad Sangma, Chief Minister of Meghalaya tweeted regarding the situation.
