Sikkim to go for weeklong complete lockdown from July 21

Sikkim government has declared a complete lockdown for seven days with effect from July 21st, 2020 to arrest the spread of the COVID-19.

During the lockdown, all government and private offices, shops, business establishments and schools will remain close. The movement of the private vehicles will remain restricted.

The state, which had remained COVID-19 free till May 23rd, 2020, has registered a total of 283 confirmed COVID-19 cases; of which 191 are active and 92 have been cured and discharged so far.

On July 16th, 2020, the Sikkim government has made the COVID-19 test compulsory for all the ministers after one of the ministers came in contact with an infected person.

However, the Rural Development Minister Sonam Lama and his team have been tested negative for the COVID-19, health authorities confirmed. They all underwent the Rapid Antigen test on July 14th, 2020.

Sikkim and the Northeast

Assam has the highest COVID-19 cases in the Northeast India followed by Tripura.

India COVID-19 cases so far

India recorded the more than 40,000 COVID-19 cases and 681 deaths in the last 24 hours, pushing the total tally to 1118043. The death toll is now 27497, as per data released by the Union Health Ministry. Active cases in India stand at 390459 while 700087 have been cured or discharged so far.

Among the states, Maharashtra is the first state to cross 6 thousand deaths. It has recorded 310455 corona cases with 169569 cured, 11854 deaths, and 129032 active cases. The western state is followed by Delhi and Tamil Nadu. Delhi has corona 122793 cases with 103134 cured, 3628 deaths, and 16031 active cases. Tamil Nadu has 170693 positive cases with 117915 cured, 2481 deaths 50297 active cases. Gujarat with 48355 COVID-19 cases, so far, has 34901 have been cured, 2142 deaths, and 11312 active cases.
