Assam Son Rajdweep's Script Chosen to be Made into Bollywood Movie

Rajdweep, a journalist-turned-screenwriter from Assam is making waves in the Bollywood film industry. Rajdweep, who has already written many Assamese films and serials, has now entered the record-books after his script has been chosen to be made into a Bollywood movie, the first time such a distinction has been earned by someone from Assam.

Rajdweep reveals that his entry into the field of journalism happened purely by accident. "I entered the field of journalism in 2007 with 'Axomia Khobor'. From my house in Dhing, I had shifted to Guwahati to study Economics. However, after joining the media industry in 2007, I fell in love with it. Then, I started writing serials", Rajdeep tells Inside Northeast.

He reveals that after writing many serials, he wrote his debut Assamese film Khel-The Game, which was released in 2015. Thereafter began his tryst with the theatre industry. "I switched to theatre, which took up a huge chunk of time. Then, I started alternating between film and theatre", he says.

He wrote the script for a second film, Rum Vodka Whiskey. Pratighat, his third film, is also being readied for a release.

Now, Rajdweep's perseverance has finally reaped rich rewards as his script has now been chosen to be made into a Bollywood movie. "Now, my script has been chosen in Bollywood, and the agreement has already been signed. The film will be on the floors within the next few months. Although I cannot disclose much right now, the film deals with the issues of Assam", he reveals, maintaining the secrecy around his project.

Explaining his connection with megastar Aamir Khan, he says, "A screenwriting contest had been organized by Cinestan. Aamir was the brain behind it, and although 4,000 entries were submitted, mine received the fourth prize. That same script has now been chosen for a Bollywood movie", he reveals.

Citing an eclectic array of influences, Rajdeep says that one does not have to follow the classics to make a mark in the industry. "People will often cite some of the classical writers and directors as their influences. However, I believe that it is entirely possible to make your own mark without looking upto anyone else.

Upon being asked about the current crop of films coming out of the Assamese film industry, Rajdweep heaps praise on one particular movie: Arunjit Bora's 'Midnight Song'. "I wrote the dialogues and lyrics to the songs in that film, and I believe that this Assamese film will truly create a mark after its release", he says with confidence.
