Singer Priyanka Bharali, who has been actively engaged in the protests against the Citizenship (Amendment) Act or CAA, said that the Assamese people will become guests in Assam if they refrain from raising their voices against the legislation.
Bharali has urged the people of Assam to stand together and stop fighting among themselves in order to stop the process of becoming guests in their own state.

“The Assamese people have to stand united. We have brought in the divide among ourselves to some extent. That is one grave mistake on our part. The outsiders took advantage of this and now we have to fight this together. We have to ensure that we do not fight among ourselves,” said Bharali reiterating that unity is strength.
Bharali made the statement while attending the “Bajra Garjan” event conducted by the All Assam Students’ Union (AASU) in Guwahati’s Chandmari.

Speaking about a recent incident, wherein she was “rumored” to be blocked by Bihu Committees for not opposing CAA, she clarified that there was a misunderstanding. “There was a misunderstanding on their part. Since they did not see me on camera, they thought I was not present at the event. But those who were there, they had seen me supporting AASU’s protests against CAA. I have been joining the anti-CAA protests since the very beginning and will continue doing so,” she said.

Bharali further said, “To agitate does not mean that one has to get on the stage to sing or to speak. Everyone might not be able to have the same qualities. I like to sing more than giving speech. We have solved the issue.”
The singer added that the agitation will continue if the January 22 hearing does not favor the people of Assam. “All of us will be compelled to protest again,” she said.
