This year has proved to be very wretched for this country, the world, and especially Bollywood. Big celebrities like Rishi Kapoor, Irrfan khan, Sushant Singh Rajput and many have walked away from us, saying goodbye to this world forever.

Bollywood Choreographer Saroj Khan,the Mother of Dance/Choreography in India has passed away at 1:52am in Mumbai on due to cardiac arrest in Mumbai. She was 71.

Nirmala Nagpal, popularly known as Saroj Khan was hospitalised to Guru Nanak Hospital at Bandra in Mumbai last week after complaining of severe breathing issues.She was  kept under observation and was later discharged. She also tested negative for Covid-19 when she was admitted to the hospital.

In a career spanning over four decades, Khan is credited with choreographing more than 2,000 songs. She choreographed Sridevi superhits such as Main Naagin Tu Sapera (Nagina) and Hawaa Hawaai (Mr India).

Her collaboration with Madhuri Dixit transformed careers of both the artists, beginning with “Ek Do Teen” (Tezaab), and following it up with “Dhak Dhak Karne Laga” (Beta).She last choreographed for Tabaah Hogaye, featuring Madhuri from filmmaker Karan Johar's production Kalank in 2019.

Awards and Acknowledgment

In her Bollywood career spanning Saroj Khan won several awards and accolades. She is a three time National Award Winner with 8 Film fare awards to her work. She also has won an international award in the form of ‘American Choreography Award’ in 2002 for Outstanding Achievement in Feature Film: Lagaan: Once Upon a Time in India (2001).

Saroj Khan also did screenwriting, and turned writer for Bollywood movies like Khiladi, Hum Hain Bemisaal, Dil Tera Diwana, Hote Hote Pyar Ho Gaya, Benaam and Khanjar and a few more. Her appearance on the small screen included being the judge on reality dance shows like Nach Baliye, Boogie Woogie and Jhalak Dikhhla Jaa.
