Time magazine on Thursday named the popular South Korean group BTS its 2020 Entertainer of the Year. The magazine announced the honor for the seven-member K-pop boy band hours before a prime-time special that will culminate with the naming of Time's Person of the Year.

The magazine cited BTS's massive global presence amid the pandemic, including leveraging their massive fan base to support causes like Black Lives Matter.

The group has become a staple of recent awards shows, performing their flashy No. 1 hit "Dynamite." The song in November brought BTS its first Grammy nomination.

Time also announced Thursday the selection of Los Angeles Lakers star LeBron James as its Athlete of the Year.

The shortlist for Time's Person of the Year, which will be announced during an NBC special at 10 p.m. EST, are President-elect Joe Biden, President Donald Trump, front-line healthcare workers, and Dr. Anthony Fauci, and the racial justice movement.

Recently, the group's latest single 'Life Goes on' has become the first-ever Korean song in Billboard history to get #1 on the Hot 100 chart.

It is also the band's first all-Korean language song that has topped the chart. BTS' previous #1 Dynamite was an all English song.

BTS now becomes the only act in history to have multiple #1s debut (directly charting) on Hot 100. BTS now joins Taylor Swift as the only acts in history to debut both song and album at No.1 on Hot 100 and Billboard 200 chart in the same week.

The band went No.1 with 'Savage Love.' It was a collaboration song with Jason Durelo and had Jhope and Suga rapping in Korean.

But Life Goes On is a Korean song. It is only BTS getting No.1 without any collaboration. LGO also has only one version released on Spotify, apple music, and other major streaming platforms. There were no remixes of the song.
