Is Northeast India's obsession with K-pop testimony of the Northeast's love for "beauty" and "perfection"? Lulu Tetseo, one of the famous Tetseo sisters from Nagaland, certainly seems to think so!
Speaking to Inside Northeast, Lulu, who is one of the judges says that Northeast India is a hotbed of talent and lovers of music, and the people in the region are consumers and fans of great music and entertainment, irrespective of language.
"Kpop is fresh, new and entertaining. We love the fashion, makeup and the star power of the kpop idols. While we don't really have a idol culture, we enjoy the fantasy kind of love and adoration the fans pour out on the idols. I mean who doesn't want that kind of adulation", Lulu adds.
The Tetseo sister further points out that the "perfected rehearsed smoothness and polish" is something that everyone aspires for, as fans and as artists.
In regards to the Northeast's obsession with K-Pop, she says that the people from the Northeast like the idea of beauty and perfection, that's is why young people in the Northeast identify easily with 'Kpopdom' and also the fact that the Northeast has a healthy appetite for non-mainstream things.
Lulu further adds that It's the time for K-pop to capture the imagination of the NE youth. "We also easily identify with K-Pop or J-Pop because the stars look closer to our own features. It's easier for us to copy them due to the oriental closeness", she adds.
